本書分析了社會(huì)、文化與口譯互動(dòng)方面的學(xué)術(shù)活動(dòng)和科研狀況，指出迄今為止相關(guān)課題的學(xué)術(shù)研究成果多囿于認(rèn)知學(xué)和心理語(yǔ)言學(xué)的范疇，很少有人將會(huì)議口譯當(dāng)作設(shè)于語(yǔ)境中的行動(dòng)來(lái)研究。作者從社會(huì)和文化的角度出發(fā)，將口譯員設(shè)在會(huì)議語(yǔ)境中，考察了社會(huì)和文化語(yǔ)境與口譯員在會(huì)場(chǎng)的存在及其口譯表現(xiàn)之間的動(dòng)態(tài)關(guān)系。作者通過(guò)親身觀察、采訪相關(guān)人員以及對(duì)會(huì)議的文字記錄進(jìn)行分析，澄清了坊問(wèn)流傳的對(duì)會(huì)議口譯的誤解。作者也同時(shí)指出，在具體語(yǔ)境中研究會(huì)議口譯的工作任重而道遠(yuǎn)。
